The Wings Over Republic Committee Members met recently to discuss the future of our Wings Over Republic Fly-Ins at our Ferry County Airport. The late Justin and Carol Smith along with Rudy Ohlund began the Fly-Ins in 2000 with a small group of pilots. We have enjoyed successful Fly-Ins since then with up to 140 planes arriving some years. Our Fly-In was dubbed a “premier event” and “the Pilots Fly-In of the Northwest”.
However, in the last seven years we have had to cancel our Fly-Ins after our year-long preparations four times due to health issues, fires, smoke-filled skies, and then in 2020 due to Covid-19. Our Wings Committee members feel it is time for us to postpone our Annual Wings Over Republic Fly-Ins indefinitely. This has been a difficult decision, and one that has been given great consideration.
We appreciate all the support we have received over the years from our City, County, Washington Pilots Association, Life Flight Network, community businesses with donations, the pilots, the 100+ volunteers and all of our community members who came out and helped make our Fly-Ins such a success. Thank you everyone for your support and participation.
Wings members encourage pilots to fly in to “Ferry County R-49” and enjoy our area with numerous recreational opportunities. The County has a courtesy car available at the airfield. Please sign in at the kiosk by the restroom so we may count our visitors. We will keep our Wings website, www.wingsoverrepublic.com, active at this time.
